Spring Giveaway

Hello!

So I ran a giveaway on Twitter last month to celebrate the publication of On the Merits of Unnaturalness, but I've become a little uncertain about the randomiser I was using to choose winners. After the same person came up three times in a row – which I appreciate could, technically, be random – I kept clicking, only to discover that the same small group of people were being chosen every time. This clearly isn't fair, so while I'm investigating with the randomiser people, I've decided to redo the giveaway here, with two extra mini-prizes (!!), in a shorter amount of time. This also means that people who don't have a Twitter account, or whose Twitter account is private, can participate, so much fairer all round. Sorry for the inconvenience if you took part the first time, but until I've sorted out this potential issue with the randomiser, I think Rafflecopter works best.

Important: If you would like to win the first prize, On the Merits of Unnaturalness, leave a comment on this blog post to tell me what kind of voyant you think you might be. So I can check if you've done this, make sure you use the same name in your comment as you do when you enter. Please note that I moderate blog comments to prevent spam, so don't worry if yours doesn't appear below the post immediately.

Terms and Conditions

If you win any of the first three prizes, you agree to have it personalised with a name. This is an international giveaway. I handle all postage myself, but I can't take responsibility if any prizes are lost in the post. Prizes are sent by second-class post.

This giveaway finishes on 21 April 2015.

Prizes

 1. A signed and personalised limited-edition print copy of On the Merits of Unnaturalness, the notorious first pamphlet by Jaxon Hall. Comes with a signed postcard.

2. A signed and personalised UK paperback of The Bone Season. Comes with a signed postcard.

3. A signed and personalised US hardback of The Mime Order. Comes with a signed postcard.

4. A signed and personalised postcard, with the invitation to the scrimmage (from The Mime Order) printed on the front.

5. Two signed and personalised bookplates to put in your own copies of the books.

  1. Thank you so much for another opportunity to win something from The Bone Season and The Mime Order worlds! I loved TBS to bits and I can't wait to get to TMO on my TBR pile!

  2. Hello Samantha,
I think I would be a Pyromancer as I can stare into a fireplace or camp fire for ages. I get lost in my thoughts, its calms my mind and helps me to reflect. If I could connect to the æther in any way I think it would be that.

  3. Oooh that does sound suspicious of that randomizer. I've never encountered that with Rafflecopter. But thanks for redoing the giveaway in the interest of fairness :)

I think I'd be a polyglot or an unreadable. I think. (I'm still not sure lalalala.)

  4. I think because I can divine for water I'd be a hydromancer, especially since I've always been drawn to the water. Otherwise, from the amount of tea I drink I might also be a tasseographer!

Hi Samantha, I think I would be an Oracle because my dreams are so clear they seem like visions.
I love your books and I can't wait to see where the series is going to go from here!

  7. Hi Samantha; I think I would be an oracle, as my imagination is my first destination for procrastination and escaping from the daily life.
Also, greetings from Oxford! Since reading The Bone Season I can't help looking at the city through the prism of Paige's story!

If I was living in Scion London I would definitely be a Crystalist since I seem have an ever-growing collection of them. I have a Labradorite crystal, which according to many crystal books, repels negative energy and opens your third eye to the world alongside ours, so whenever I'm really, really upset I put it to my third eye and all the negative emotion instantly vanishes without a trace.

  15. I think i'd probably be a Psychographer, because I love to write but can never come up with the ideas; I reckon being possessed to write would help solve that!

  16. I would be a Dreamwalker because of my age and health Its the only way I have adventures these days.......

I really like Jaxon's power so I'll probably be a Binder since I do love to keep people close to me and order them around :)

Hi Samantha! First, I want to tell you that your books are AMAZING! If I were living in Scion London and I was part of the voyant community, I think I would be a dreamwalker like Paige! Not only I daydream a lot, but also because I tend to think of living my own body and see the other side of reality. It'd be cool to get into other people's head and mess up with them from the inside! Haha :)

  23. Hello!

While I love the idea of being a dreamwalker, I think I'd be an automatiste. Even though I've a muse and a solo exhibition entitled 'DREAMWALKER' after my lucid dreaming, it's the art for me!

I can't wait to experience the rest of the series!

I think I would be either a Bibliomancer or a Polyglot that became Unreadable.

  25. Thank you so much for working on making sure we all get a fair shot!

I'd totally be a bibliomancer because of my love for books and my talent for hoarding them!

  26. Hey! I would be an Oracle because even though knowing the future may be a burden, I can at least help people understand how their fate came to be.

  27. Hi Samantha,
Firsty I would like to say that I really enjoyed The Bone Season and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!
Now personally I would rather be a Whisperer but the idea of being a Berserker is more exciting. Even though there wasn't much about Berserkers in the first book I really look forward to learning more about them (and the other orders for that matter) in later books =)

  28. Hi Samantha,

  33. Gwen Diane Ma...I would be a bibliomancer of course! I'm the family book recommender; the first to find and read obscure books and the first to gloat when they soar to the top of the bestseller lists. You remember a little book called "How to be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid fixture", by Heidi Montag? Nailed it! Ok, kidding, I assume that book is awful, but I did read the Bone Season ages ago, and got my family hooked.

  34. According to this quiz (http://www.ohthebooks.com/quiz-what-kind-of-voyant-would-you-be/) I would be a Soothsayer. I look forward to reading and learning more about the orders of unnaturalness! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ah, my last comment didn't go through! What I meant to say was that, due to the fact that, as far as I know, I can't eject my consciousness into the aether, I think I must be a nocturnal Sibyl. I had the sneaking suspicion one day that I spoke a lot in my sleep, as sometimes in my dreams words would some to have more weight then usual when I said them, so I set up a recorder to see what would happen. Needless to say the results were interesting...I spoke with a clear voice in peculiar accents, giggled to myself and held eerie one sided conversations on subjects I literally know nothing about, none of which I could remember happening in my dream from that night! Perhaps the weirdest thing of all though was that after another week of recording I figured out that I always spoke at the same time around 2 AM ever night. If that isn't some Delphi inspired madness, I'm not sure what is!
I adore your books Samantha, so I'm looking forward to reading what comes next and am crossing my fingers and toes for On the Merits of Unnaturalness!

  37. from all and every claivoyants there I am 100% sure I am...or would be an Oracle because I can sometimes see the future so clearly that it scares the bones out of me xD and also because I can easily predict how a situation would end.... my only problem is that no one listen to me or believes me until the thing in question happens... it makes me feel like Cassandra, the oracle from Troy that predicted it's downfall but no one believed her :P

good to see you're making another giveaway again, so I can hope to earn something signed by you this time :D

    A Bibliomancer!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi!
I would almost definitely be a polyglot voyant - considering how many languages I'm currently studying and interested in, having the ability to channel the aether on a linguistic level would definitely be for me!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd be a dreamwalker. I'm always daydreaming anyway so it would be an exciting twist to be able to walk into other people's dreams.

  45. I just read The Bone Season and loved it. Can't wait to get my hands on The Mime Order. Really want this edition of On the Merits of Unnaturalness!!

  47. Nicole Smolinski13 April 2015 at 10:53

I feel like I would definitely be a binder, plus that is an awesome power to have.

    ReplyDelete
  48. After narrowing it down with an online test that said I'd be an Augur, I think I'd be a tasseographer. Give me tea and lots of it!

    ReplyDelete
  49. If I could choose what type of voyant I could be, I would love to be a bibliomancer so that I could write pamphlets like Jaxon, although mine would probably turn out to be much less attention-grabbing than 'On The Merits of Unnaturalness'. Really I'd be happy to be any kind of voyant at all...even a lowly rhabdomancer!

    Hello!

First of all, this is a super cool way of doing the giveaway! Second, I think that I would either be a Cleidomancer or an Oracle.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Samantha!

Thank you so much for doing this again! I think I would probably be a polyglot, but I could see myself being a bibliomancer or some kind of theriomancer which specialises in cats, due to my experience being a crazy cat lady. xxx

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi Samantha,
I'd totally be a Dreamwalker. I truly believe that my natural state is sleeping, and in that state I experience my wildest adventures. If not that, I'd be an Unreadable. I've frequently been told I'm intimidating because people aren't able to read my emotions and so they don't know how to approach me. Not the greatest for making friends but good when you feel like a chicken with its head chopped off ;)

Thanks for letting us join your amazing world!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would definitely be a Biblomancer~~ Thanks for the chance :D

    ReplyDelete
  54. Whisperer for sure, although the idea of a Hisser is fascinating too, fantastically rude, I could do that!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Omg I figured it out!

So basically I've said this many times and you know I would be either a bibliomancer or a psychographer, though not as good as you of course!

In the very likely possibility that I don't win this can I ask you to speak to Bloomsbury about wider distribution? I would LOVEEE a signed "On the merits" (and the actual copy itself) but what I really want is the information about the seven orders of clairvoyance. I don't think it's fair, in Paige's world virtually anyone could get a copy since it was so widely distributed. So why can't we?

Anyway sending love as usual xxxx

  60. I am definitely a whisperer since birth. Not because I am good at playing musical instruments, but I am very good at playing air instruments when I feel emotional and spiritual tremors from within and without. #OnTheMerits.

    ReplyDelete
  61. And yes by saying air instruments that includes the vocals. So I do also Lip Synching (and I am also good at the actual singing). #Whisperer #OnTheMerits

  62. Hi Samantha! Such a great idea to host a giveaway here :)
I think I would like to be a dreamwalker; although in the books Paige is being chased and in great danger and it looks hard to be a dreamwalker, there's also - for example - the scene with the bird in The Mime Order (no spoilers, promise!) and well it connects to one of the oldest dreams of humanity - flying. So I guess there's also a good, no-war-in-the-syndicate side of a dreamwalker and I'd love to explore that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Samantha! I would be a jumper. As I have red hair and my favorite color is red, I think it is quite fitting!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would like to be an Oracle, be one step ahead of everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love the whole idea of being a dream-walker sure, but having a sort of mental shield is way more awesome since as a person we all hate for people to know what we think all the time, so i'd be a unreadable, that's for sure. thank you for the giveway! i love that you do this kind of stuff, and thank you for all the work you put into your books

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi! I think that i would most likely be a Biblomancer, but maybe some sort of Fury would fit better. It is difficult to choose! I just finished the First and Second book over the lats three days, it was enthralling and I dreaded everytime i had to set it down. Thank you for writing such an intriguing series, I can't wait to read the next book!

  71. I don't think I could be any kind of voyant. I find that my life is a bit too normal for that. Still, I find your books fun to read. Being a dream-walker sounds like the most interesting type.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Pyromancer for sure. (Especially as I'm always on fire eyy)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I imagine that I would be a Dreamwalker, because I daydream a lot and I think that is something like leaving the body as a Dreamwalker (only I still get to breathe when I daydream. I am always really curious about what other people's minds are like. If not a Dreamwalker, I would probably be a hydromancer, because I feel a strong connection to water.

    Kat Comber

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm going with a probably less popular choice and saying I'd be a theriomancer because I just learned what that it and it's fascinating (provided I didn't have to injure animals to do so...)

    ReplyDelete
  75. I would be a whisperer, a sibyl, or a psychographer. Being a dreamwalker would be cool, but everyone wants to be one and I don't think I could live with such a decreased life span.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think I would be a bibliomancer or psychographer. I am working on my Master's in Library Science. I love working at the archives and organizing people's papers. My dreams are pretty vivid, so I could see myself using books for divination. But I could also see myself as a psychographer. Because my dreams are vivid and I love imagining stories, I love to write.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would have to pick bibliomancer as I love books but can I suggest a new class? I have worked with maps all my life, so how about cartographomancer? Maps would be my numa and I could use them to find current locations of specific persons or objects, or determine if a given location plays an important role in a person's past, present or future. By the way I really enjoy your books, I am reading The Mime Order right now!

  82. I'd probably be a Whisperer- I've always had a special connection and love for music; listening to it is magical, and making it is even more so. I also play the violin, piano, and ukulele. :)

  85. I would have to go for a Dreamwalker I dream most nights and tend to remember a lot of them so I think a Dreamwalker would be most appropriate.

  91. I think it'd be rather cool to be an Oracle, but I'd say I'm more of a Dreamwalker. I always have very vivid dreams and remember most of what happens in them. I'd also be fascinated with seeing inside of another's mind and getting a glimpse of what makes them tick and how their dreamscapes would appear.

  93. Dear Samantha, I love The Bone Season and The Mime Order. I have been reading them over and over and uncovering more and more information with each reading. I think I will, of course, have to scour them again before reading Book 3 which I am anxiously awaiting. (I am not one who will encourage you to hurry with the writing, though. Take all the time you need to make the next book just as wonderful as the first two have been!)

As I am actually a medium, I think I would probably be an Oracle as that is closest to the type of mediumship that have developed. If not of that high an order, I would most likely be a speaking medium. Thank you so much for the giveaway opportunity. I second someone else's comment about another run of On The Merits. And I'm thinking that I wouldn't mind reading that penny dreadful, either. :D

I can't say enough wonderful things about these books. They have me completely captivated. Wishing you all the best with the rest of the serious. You are guaranteed to have me along for the entire ride!
